“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” – Joshua 1: 8

Precious Disciple of Jesus Christ, the Daystar,
This week’s Scripture verse is so well-known that its meaning can easily slip by us. But God instructs us to meditate on His Word. The word “meditate” comes from a root word that means to chew. In other words, God wants us not just to read His Word, but to chew on it, to mull it over continually in our minds.
Another meaning of the word “meditate” is to “mutter over and over.” God wants us to speak His Word over and over so that it will penetrate our spirits and become rooted there.
In Joshua 1: 8, we find the secret of success: “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”
Here again, God is commanding us to think about His Word all day and all night long, to speak it all day and all night long. What God is saying is that His Word must be the point around which our whole life revolves. Everything we think, do, and say must begin with His Word and end with His Word. Jesus, the Word, is the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End of lilfe. Apart from the Word, there is no life.
Why does God command us to meditate on His Word day and night? Because as we meditate on His Word, we are learning the Truth, and it is only the Truth that will make us free. Bottom line, God wants us to be free
If we do not know the Truth, we cannot be free. If you are not free in some area of your life–whether it’s in your health, in your finances, or in your emotions–the reason is that you do not yet know the trth about that area of your life.
How can you learn the Truth that will set you free? Go to God’s Word and dig for the Truth. Once you know the Truth and apply it, you will experience the freedom for which you so desperately long.
