“Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.” (Galatians 5: 16)
Precious Disciple of Jesus Christ, the Daystar,
For years I struggled like the Apostle Paul, doing those things I didn’t want to do, and not doing those things I wanted to do (Romans 7: 19). I would pray and plead with God to remove my sin from me, to pull it out by the roots Yet, I still continued to sin and to struggle.
Then one day, our Lord gave me a revelation. He said, “Your struggle is not with sin; it is with the sin nature. As long as you are on this earth, the sin nature will remain in you. It cannot be rooted out this side of Heaven. The good news, however, is that you can now live above the sin nature. It no longer has dominion over you.” (See Romans 6: 14).
God’s personal revelation freed me from the struggle of fighting my sin nature. Instead of focusing on my sin nature, which had already been defeated by Jesus Christ, I began focusing on my new nature in Christ. Whenever I was tempted by my sin nature, I would not try to fight it. Instead, I would ask the Holy Spirit to respond out of my new nature in Christ.
That to which we give our attention will grow. If we give our attention to our sin nature, it will become the focal point of our lives. If, however, we give our attention to our redeemed spirit, it will gain the ascendancy in our lives.
Like an airplane that defies the law of gravity by the law of lift, we have the pwoer to defy the law of sin by the law of life in Christ Jesus. Let us walk in that power.
