“I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes.” (Psalm 101: 3)
Precious Disciple of Jesus Christ, the Daystar,
The eyes and the ears are the gateways to the heart, or the spirit, of man. What we allow to enter our spirits through our eyes and our ears will affect not only our own well-being, but also all of our relationships.
The Word of God tells us to “guard our heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life” (Proverbs 4: 23). How do we guard our heart? We guard our heart by refusing to entertain any sight or sound that will draw us away from Christ.
We live in a culture where immorality is rampant. There is hardly a palce we go where we are not bombarded with sexually suggestive pictures, violent song lyrics, and a host of other sights and sounds Satan uses to destroy us.
If we want to be wise, we will put a guard around our eyes and our ears. We will avoid, to the best of our ability, those sights, sounds, and places that would attempt to draw us away from Christ and into sin. While we can’t always control what appears before our eyes or what reaches our ears, we can always control whether or not we keep it there.
