“Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart.” (2 Corinthians 3: 3)
Precious Disciple of Jesus Christ, the Daystar,
Last week the entire world witnessed the laying to rest of one of the greatest men in history: Ronald Wilson Reagan. What struck me most about the experience were the many accounts of small kindnesses rendered by the former President of the United States to obscure people. These accounts remained hidden to the world until last week.
As I listened, I realized that our dear former leader was a living epistle of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He truly lived the Gospel of love. Indeed, he was the most pwoerful kind of evangelist–the kind who preaches throug his actions more than through his words.
As the setting California sun marked the formal close of Ronald Reagan’s life, I was reminded once again of this anonymous verse:
Only one life; ’twill soon be past.
Only what’s done for Christ will last.
May all we do be done for Christ, for someday we, too, like President Reagan, shall reach the sunset of our lives.
