“My son, give attention to My words . . . .” (Proverbs 4: 20)
I put myself through college by working as a waitress. While on the job, I “attended” tables. In the original sense of the word, I “paid attention” to the people at the tables in my charge.
Paying attention involved keeping my eyes and ears focused on my customers. It involved instant obedience to their every request. It also involved keeping myself free of distractions from other waitresses-distractions such as idle chatter or anything that would cause me to take my eyes off my customers.
Like my waitressing job, living for God involves keeping our eyes and ears focused onHis Word, instantly obeying His every command, and avoiding those distractions that would cause us to take our eyes off of serving God.
Purpose in your heart today to give your full and undivided attention to God’s Word. As verse 22 in this week’s chapter promises, God’s words “are life to those who find them, and health to all their flesh.”
