Precious Disciple of Jesus Christ, the Daystar,

One of the most subtle of Satan’s traps is “the grass-is-always-greener” trap. Satan sets this trap by trying to get us to believe that any situation other than our own is far better than our own. Then he tempts us with dissatisfaction about our current situation.

For example, Satan may try to tell us that First Christian Church is far better than the church we are currently attending. We may then find ourselves looking for everything wrong about our church. We may even end up looking for ways to leave our church when it is not God’s will for us to do so.

Satan may also whisper that so-and-so’s wife (or husband) is far more understanding than our own and then tempt us to focus on our spouse’s faults instead of his or her good points.

Dissatisfaction runs rampant today, and the Church is not immune to it. What is the antidote? I know of only one: Giving thanks to God in the midst of our current situation, whatever that may be.

Then, once we’ve given thanks, we should ask God if there is anything we can do to change or improve the situation if it needs change or improvement. If it oes, we must do what we can to change or improve it. Once we’ve done all we can, then we must trust God to do the rest.

If you’ve been wishing for what you don’t have, start focusing on what you do have. Then thank God and others involved for those blessings.
