“Give your burdens to the Lord. He will carry them.” (Psalm 55: 22 TLB)
Precious Disciple of Jesus Christ, the Daystar,
We Americans are a self-reliant, independent lot. On top of that, many of us come from ethnic backgrounds that emphasized personal responsibility and persistent effort.
While these are all good traits when kept in balance, they often stand in the way of our giving our burdens to our Lord. Somehow we feel that doing so is being irresponsible or weak.
Consequently, we insist on carrying burdens and cares that we were not meant to carry and that can cause serious problems in our health, our peace of mind, and our relationships.
As you meditate on God’s Word to you this week, ask yourself what burdens you are carrying and give them to Him. It is not a sign of irresponsibility or weakness to do so. On the contrary, it is a sign of obedience and trust in our Savior Who wants us to experience His peace and joy.
He who carries burdens must, of necessity, look downward because of the weight of the load. But when we give our burdens to Christ, we can stand straight and tall. When we stand straight and tall, we can look up and praise our Lord with freedom because no load is restricting our arms from being lifted in praise to Him.
