Precious Disciple of Jesus Christ, the Daystar,
The Word of God tells us that God’s ways are higher than our ways (Isaiah 55: 9). Experience often shows us that God’s ways are opposite of our ways.
For example, when someone speaks a hurtful word to us, our natural instinct is to respond in kind. But, as believers in Jesus Christ, we now have a supernatural instinct that supersedes the natural.
The Bible refers to this dichotomy between the natural and the supernatural as the war between the flesh and the spirit. It is a war that wil be waged as long as we remain on this earth.
But the good news is that Jesus has overcome the flesh. Because of Him, we now have the power to subdue the flesh and to act supernaturally. This is called walking in the spirit, as described in the Book of Galatians.
At times, however, we sin by giving in to the flesh. When this happens, we should go immediately go God and ask HI forgiveness. We should also ask the forgiveness of the person we have hurt. Doing so will put us back into walking in the Spirit.
As we walk in the spirit, we will be free from the tyranny of the flesh. Although the flesh may tempt us, it no longer has dominion over us.
So, the next time someone hurls angry words at you, answer with a soft word. In doing so, you will be handling the situation God’s way.
