Precious Disciple of Jesus Christ, the Daystar,
The early Church had a marvelous understanding of the Name of Jesus. As the descendants of that same early Church, we, too, must understand the power in that Name above all names.
Not only must we understand the power in the Name of Jesus but also, as our Scripture verse for this week commands, we must do everything in the Name of Jesus.
In practical terms, this means that every word we speak must be spoken in the Name of Jesus, every meal we eat must be eaten in the Name of Jesus, every job we do must be done in the Name o.f Jesus. Why?
The reason is that doing everything in the Name of Jesus keeps us focused on Jesus, and keeping focused on Jesus is what gives us life in every sense of the term. As the Word says, “In Him we live and move and have our being” (Acts 17: 28).
When we do everything in the Name of Jesus, we become more careful about our conduct and behavior. The Name of Jesus serves as a safeguard protecting us from sin. For example, if what we are about to do cannot be done in the Name of Jesus, then we must not do it. If what we are about to say cannot be said in the Name of Jesus, then we must not say it.
Jesus is the Beginning and the End of all things. He Himself said, “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last” (Revelation 22: 13). Our life begins with Him and our life ends in Him.
In light of this, let everything we think, say, and do bring Him honor and glory. In Jesus’ Name, I pray. Amen.
