Precious Disciple of Jesus Christ, the Daystar,
When we think of the word “peace,” we think of freedom from anxiety, a state of stillness, harmony in relationships. Although the word “peace” means all of these things, it means so much more.
In the original Hebrew, “peace” or “shalom” means a state of being in which nothing is missing and nothing is broken. When Jesus gave us His peace, He literally gave us total wholeness in spirit, soul, and body. In essence, He gave us a quality of life in which nothing would be missing and nothing would be broken.
What an awesome gift! Imagine a life in which nothing is missing and nothing is broken. Such a life would know no lack and would suffer no pain. Indeed, that is the abundant life which Jesus has given us through His death and resurrection.
As believers in Christ, we can have a foretaste of that life here on earth. To the degree that we believe God’s Word and obey it by acting on it, to that degree will we experience His peace in our lives.
