Precious Disciple of Jesus Christ, the Daystar,
God speaks the language of faith. It is the language He used to create the universe and to create each one of us. It is also the only language to which He responds favorably. Since this is so, it is important for us to learn the language of faith so that we can communcate with God, minister to Him, and receive all that He has planned for us.
What is faith? Faith is believing that God’s Word is true no matter what the circumstances look like or feel like. Faith is not foolishness. It is not denying that a problem exists; it is simply recognizing that because of Jesus Christ and your right standing in Him, the problem has no legal right to reamin in your life.
How do we learn the language of faith? The same way we learn any language, by hearing it spoken over and over. Just as a child is born with the innate ability to speak, so were we born again with the innate ability to speak the language of faith (Romans 12: 3).
But unless a child repeatedly hears spoken language, he will not learn to speak. Likewise, unless we hear the Word of God repeatedly spoken through teaching, preaching, and listening to the Word, we will not learn to speak the language of faith.
Moreover, if a child is to grow in his knowledge of language, he must study and memorize and meditate on what he is learning. He must speak it back to his teachers and speak it to others in order to make it his own. Likewise, if we are to grow in our knowledge of faith, we must study and memorize and meditate on the Word of God. We must speak it back to God and to others in order to make it our own.
Our verse for this week tells us that the just shall live by faith. This not only means that we are commanded to respond to every situation with faith; it also means that only by responding with faith will we experience the fullness of the abundant life that Christ earned for us. In other words, only by faith will we truly live.
If you need to develop fluency in the language of faith, get some Scripture CDs and listen to the Word over and over. Remember that “faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God” (Romans 10: 17).
