Precious Disciple of Jesus Christ, the Daystar,
I find it interesting that we often use the expression “feeling down” to describe feelings of discouragement. Well, if we’re feeling “down”, it usually means that we’re not looking “up”. Instead, we’re keeping our eyes on ourselves and on our problems.
The Bible gives us the antidote for discouragement; it’s called “the garment of praise”. Praise is a powerful weapon in driving away discouragement because praise shifts our focus from ourselves to our God. When we focus on God, we remember that He is the answer to our every need and that He will help us through the storm. In fact, the Bible tells us that praise brings God on the scene because He inhabits (or dwells in) the praises of His people (Psalm 22: 3). Praise also generates joy in our spirits, and the joy of the Lord is our strength (Nehemiah 8: 10).
Make it a habit to praise the Lord throughout the day,e specially when you don’t feel like it. God know we sometimes wouldn’t feel like praising Him. That’s the reason it’s called the “sacrifice” of praise (Hebrews 13: 15). But God commands us to praise Him anyway because He knows that praising Him blesses us.
As you begin praising God, you’ll soon discover that discouragement has fled and joy has taken its place.
