Precious Disciple of Jesus Christ, the Daystar,
It is a common misconception that only the prosperous are greedy or materialistic. Yet, as W. James Russell says in his insightful book, Overcoming Subtle Sins, “The subtle sin of materialism has everything to do with attitude and nothing to do with assets.”
I personally know extremely wealthy people who are the most generous upon earth. At the same time, I personally know poverty-stricken people who are among the greediest and most materialistic on earth. The difference between the two is in their attitude toward money.
What is your attitude toward money? Do you think about it more than you think about anything else? Do you crave it and believe that if you had more, you would be happier? Do you look to your job as your source of financial security, or do you look to God?
Ask yourself this questions: If I lost my job today, how would I react? The answer to that question is a good indication of your attitude toward money.
Our Lord promises to provide all of our needs according to His riches. Do you truly believe that? IF you do, then you will not worry about money. You will look to God and trust that no matter what the state of the economy, God’s economy is never in recession. He will keep His Word to you. But first, you may need to change your attitude toward money.
