” . . . let us . . . bring our consecration to completeness in the [reverential] fear of God.” (2 Corinthians 7: 1 AMP)
Precious Disciple of Jesus Christ, the Daystar,
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom (Proverbs 9: 10). It is also the beginning of knowledge (Proverbs 1: 7). According to our Scripture verse for this week, the ear of the Lord brings our consecration to God to completeness. In other words, fearing the Lord makes us spiritually mature and totally surrendered to God.
What is the fear of the Lord? The fear of the Lord is total respect for and obedience to what God says. It is acting as though God means what He says and says what He means. It is putting what He thinks about what we think and doing things His way rather than our way.
Too many Christians decide what they want to do and then ask God to bless it. This is not fearing the Lord. It is walking in rebellion. We are to ask God what He wants us to do even if it is contrary to what we want to do. Then we must obey what God tells us to do whether it makes sense to us or not (Proverbs 3:5).
