Precious Disciple of Jesus Christ, the Daystar,
Anointed evangelist, Joyce Meyer, often makes the following funny, but profound, statement: “Your WHO is not your DO!” What Mrs. Meyer is sating here is that our value and worth as human beings is not based on our performance but on the truth that God, in creating us, has, by His grace, given us intrinsic worth.
It seems to me that one of Satan’s most subtle attacks has been to convince people that their worth is based on their performance. I call this “the performance syndrome.”
Basically, the performance syndrome states that your worth as a person (and, consequently, your right to be loved) is based on how well you perform in the various areas of your life. If you perform well, you deserve to be loved; if you do not perform well, you do not deserve to be loved. A classic example of this is the young child whose parent withdraws love when the child fails to make straight A’s on a report card.
The truth, however, is that God loves us no matter how well or how poorly we perform. His love for us is unconditional. In other words, it is not based on what we do but on who we are. God does not grant His love only when we meet His conditions; He grants it always, whether we meet His conditions or not. When we grasp this truth, we enter the realm of total freedom.
Meditate on our Scripture verse throughout the week, and begin to live in the freedom that comes from knowing that you are loved unconditionally.
